I’ve been fighting hard in Parliament to secure long-term investment for communities like ours. While a number of town centres in Penrith & Solway have seen significant development over recent years, other neighbourhoods have been neglected and overlooked.
Labour’s Pride in Place long-term investment in local neighbourhoods is looking to address this, and Maryport has been on the top of my list.
I was delighted to hear in early October 2025 that Maryport, more particularly the neighbourhoods of Ellenborough, Ewanrigg, Netherton, Grasslot, Broughton Moor and Flimby, have been allocated funding under the scheme: £20 million over 10 years. Long-term funding, for a decade of renewal in which neighbourhoods get to decide for themselves how their communities can be best helped.
I will help set up a board of local people who will make decisions on how this should be spent. The Board must be in place by summer 2026. Spending on projects can start in Spring 2027: £2 million each year from 2027 right through till 2037.
You can fill in my Survey here: we're looking particularly for the views of those of you who live in Ellenborough, Ewanrigg, Netherton, Grasslot, and Broughton Moor.
